Many local children living in slums in Batam, whose families can’t afford school fees, spend their days collecting and selling rubbish with their parents, with few options out of poverty.

When you give the gift of pre-school education, teachers will be employed to deliver free preschool education for vulnerable children living in slum communities on Batam Island, Indonesia. Kids will learn basic reading, writing and maths to ensure they are equipped with the skills needed to participate in the public primary school system and can go on to have the chance to break the cycle of poverty in Batam. The teachers will all be trained and hired from within the community, providing a rare opportunity for quality, stable employment.

Meet Rahayu, the school founder who’ll deliver your eGift

Rahayu set up a free preschool for children living in Batam, training local people to teach them. The school gained so much support from the local community as her students went on to excel in primary school that Rahayu and her team went on to open four more schools in different slum communities, enabling more than 200 children to learn and grow every year.
